Legal advice needed PLEASE!?

my landlord (a longtime friend of the family) is trying to kick me out so he can increase my rent closer to ';market rate';. i had a lease which he lied on and said i pay $900 when i really pay $700. he was doing this for his benefit somehow... he worked it out w/ my ex bf who used to live here as well so i just signed it. it was stupid and too trusting. well i spoke w/ the rental tribunal and theyb said my lease automatically renews and he can only increase my rent by 1.4%. is there a way i can prove or fight that i have been paying $700/month? i've been paying cash and haven't been getting receipts BUT do have a tax receipt he gave me for what i paid last year which shows i've been paying $700/month. Is this enough to fight what the lease says to prove what I have really been paying?Legal advice needed PLEASE!?
Sounds like this isn't a United States-based question.

Here, you have a whole different landlord-tenant relationship.

The tax receipt will help, but it could backfire if the landlord really wants to raise the rent. He could say that he has been allowing you to pay a lesser amount out of the goodness of his heart or as a charitable thing. You are better off moving out than trying to fight it out. Even if you go to court and get the rent reduced to what you are actually paying, you will create ill-will that will eventually cause problems down the road.
I don't understand your gripe! You've been living in an apartment that has a ';market rate'; of $900 and you've only been paying $700 and now you've got the nerve to complain about it? You need to cough up $900+1.4% a month or move out! Obviously, your ex bf was kicking in some kind of compensation to cover the other $200 and YOU'RE obviously not.... Typical!
you need to do things on the straight and narrow. this is a prime example of why.... is that cheaper rent a bargain now??
I am going to give you my honest answer. he wants you out of that apartment. is the bottom line. and, he will get you out after all its his property...just move on. life is way too short to fight over a place that you are not wanted in.
