I assume this is an uncommon circumstance, but here it is. My mother passed away this past November. My wife and I had been staying with her to take care of her. The house she lived in is technically in the name of a family friend. They ';traded'; houses in 2002 and never made it official. The house that's in my mom's name is being rented out, and her friend is receiving the payment. There is a mortgage in the friends name on the house that we are currently in. Her friend said that if we pay the mortgage off, she'll sign the house over to us. I'm wondering what sort of precautions are necessary to know that we won't pay off the house, and her bail on us and try to sell it. A month ago I would've never dreamed of that, but her actions lately make me wonder.Legal advice on a complicated home buying?
Have you searched through your mother's files to see if there is anything in writing about this arrangement? I suggest you do this, as well as search her computer %26amp; email.
Sounds like you should have a legal adviser on this matter.
Sorry for your loss. Good luck
