Need Legal Advice ... see below ...?

I have a good friend who has a beautiful 2 year old daughter. The kid's father is kind of a ';whack-job'; and the mom is now worried for the safety of the child.





She does not have a lot of money and is looking for some free legal advice ... below is her e-mail to me ...





';Hey Neil can you help me find out more about free legal advice regarding ***** (Child's name ) not being able to see ***** ( father's name ) anymore??? He has lost his mind and I dont want my daughter around him anymore. Do you know of any good attorneys that might not charge too much (I know your thinking - yeah right), but anything would help.';

tell her to contact legal aid in her state....might be able to get the number from the local Department of Human Services...these agencies provide free or low cost legal services to those with qualifying income level. Good luck to her.Need Legal Advice ... see below ...?
Any and all lawyers will sit down with you for a free one hour long consultation...she can start there...remember, all lawyers will overbill a bit...so it doesnt hurt to ASK....';Can you bill me?'; I wish i had hired a lawyer even if it meant i would be paying off their bills 5 years later! Its worth it in these cases. Go to the phone book...look up lawyer and see if there is an add for one who specializes in family court Good Luck
in my state, Minnesota, if the mother and father of the child were not married at the time of birth the mother automatically has full physical and legal custody of the child. My ex was the exact same way and I have restricted his visits to being supervised, without going through the courts. Tell her to call legal aid.
Have her call each attorney she has a number for and ask if they are taking any Pro Bono cases. Some take a certain number a year. Legal Aid is another option. She can call her local ';welfare'; office and they might have some options for her.
My friend is going throught the exact same thing. She went and got a restraining order(extremely temp only a week until a judge could ok it), than she went to court with the judge and got a temporary restraining order(6months) and now she will be going to court so that she has full custody and the father can't see the baby at all.
If she is afraid that the dad will hurt either one of them, she can call the police or check in to a women's shelter. The shelter should be able to help her find options.
Tell her to try and see if there are any legal aide type services in your area. She can probably call the local social services office in your area. Other that, she might want to just get out the phone book and call and compare prices. Best of Luck!
